I'm new to iPad and have ppurchased several books to aid my learning curve. This book has proven to be the most useful.

May be OK for what's new in ios 12 but useless for anyone wanting to learn how to get productive use out of an Ipad. Full of the usual gushing about photos and music and clouds but not much of a practical nature.

I love the characters - you feel like you are right there with them. I love the cases that they investigate. The story line flows smoothly so it’s an easy read.

She’s just the girl he’s looking for…A young woman falls out of the back of a van on a quiet road. She is in desperate need of medical attention and right before she loses consciousness, she says "Help Her." Days later another young woman's body is found in a shallow grave. The two young women have a few things in common: their red hair color, their age, and their very thin frail bodies.Detective Gina Harte is called in to investigate. She must put all her energy into solving these two cases. She needs to determine the connection between the two girls, is there a serial killer involved, and to also determine the identity of the young women.This book had a few twists and turns to keep readers guessing. The reader is also given various POV’s which helps move the book along and gives us insight into what is occurring for some of the characters. For most of the book, I was trying to determine the connection between the opening scene and the rest of the book. Readers will also be guessing about what is going on in this book and why. There were times in the book where my attention wandered, and I wanted things to move along just a little bit faster.This book is the third in the series but worked well as a stand-alone novel for me. I am sure that readers of the previous books might enjoy this one a bit more than I did as they had some background information on Detective Harte. I did not realize when I requested the book that this was the third in the series. But again, I did feel it worked well as a stand-alone but would encourage other readers to read the previous books as they will be given background information on the characters in this book. This was a solid police procedural with interesting characters.Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Her Pretty Bones is the third book in the DI Gina Harte series, set in the Midlands, but each one is a separate mystery with enough backstory to read as stand-alone, and neither do they spoil the earlier books so they could be read out of order. They cover some fairly dark topics, in this case the abduction of homeless drug addicts, but without excessive violence or sadism.A teenage girl falls from the back of a Transit van on a country road, and is taken to hospital, where she dies of extreme emaciation, with no clues as to her identity. Days later, the decomposed body of another girl is found in a shallow grave. Both had vivid red hair, evidence of drugs in their systems, and neither had been reported missing. DI Harte, battling her own demons, is convinced the cases are linked. When another teenager is reported missing by her frantic mother, Gina is desperate to find her, before it's too late.I have enjoyed all three of this series, although the second remains my favourite. They are well written and plotted, and while I did work out fairly early what was going on, I didn't guess the identity of the antagonists or how it all connected. Gina is a good detective hamstrung by poor coping skills, difficult personal relationships, and an appalling diet. I would have liked for her team members to be better fleshed out, as some characters are just names on a page, and hope that Gina manages to get over her guilt over past secrets before it gets too repetitive. Nonetheless I am happy to recommend this series to fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Bryndza & Val McDermid.A special mention goes to the cover art, which is gorgeous, but also relevant, and really stands out in a genre where so many look the same, bravo.My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I studied using this edition, along with the app, for a month. Passed my first try with a great score! It was a great generalist review of the SW profession. During testing, I was able to vividly recall material straight from this book

I bought this book at the end of February and my LMSW exam was at the end of March. I used only this book to study & I passed it on the 1st try! The book was really helpful, especially the practice test at the back. My only recommendation would be for the next book to structure the practice questions as they are on the exam. In addition to this book, PLEASE TAKE THE ASWB ONLINE PRACTICE EXAM!!! That's what's MOST helpful!!

This review guide claims to reflect the 2018 blueprint of the ASWB exam. However, all ethics questions refer to a 2006 version of the NASW Code of Ethics. The code of ethics is a substantial part of the exam and many of the questions and answer explanations do not reflect what will be on the test. It is not worth the money.

Great book. Two areas that were not covered with great detail was the Code of Ethics and diagnostics. I recommend the social work podcast and Diagnosis Made Easier to fill in gaps. Social work podcast also covers theories and interventions in detail. This book gives the most comprehensive guide to study though. It sets you on a path. I used it along with the noted above and the Pocket Prep app which has about 600 questions similar to the example exam in the book. The questions are NOT like the exam but they get you accustomed to what they’ll be like. I didn’t buy the aswb exam but I heard those are the most similar to a real exam. Hope this helps

So I waited a bit to post this. I applied to take my CSW examination in KY around the time I ordered it. I realized quickly that I needed to practice some before taking it. I had read so many stories of people taking the test and failing which only added to my anxiety. This book helped me with understanding the test and provided a great resource for me to touch up on the areas that I needed improvement in. The only con I found with this book is that the code for the app had been used already. However, there is a great app on the app store called pocket prep that is a great companion. The questions will link you to pages in this very study guide so that you can study. So they worked great together. Will this ensure you pass the first time? I won't promise that. Everyone tests differently. I will tell you that this could help you though!

I purchased this book with anticipation that I would be given an overview of the 4 content areas of the exam. It's a good overview. I was enticed by the mobile app feature. The download instructions were not clear so, I had to call customer service. It would have been better if this was just straight forward, but persistently, I had to jump through some hoops. I'm pleased with the outcome because it is worth it to have these study materials at home AND in the palm of my hand for the on-the-go person. If you're willing to go through a bit of trouble with the mobile app feature and if you're looking for an overview, this might be the material for you. Fingers crossed this is good enough for the exam!

If you are planning to take the MSW exam this is a must have. Very well written, easy to understand and has ALL you NEED to pass the exam. It definitely worked for me!

Patricia Powell is the author of Me Dying Trial, The Pagoda, and a forthcoming novel, The Good Life. Her awards include the Bruce Rossley Literary Award, the Ferro-Grumley Award for Fiction, and the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Writers' Award. Powell has taught creative writing at Harvard University, Wellesley College, and the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Currently she is Martin Luther King Visiting Professor at MIT. Powell lives in Watertown, Massachusetts.

I don't know if, as one reviewer mentioned, this book gives lie to anything that I knew about gays in Jamaica. In many ways it affirms much of what you'd expect from middle class gays that probably created the kinds of spaces that Powell sparingly describes in the novel. I have the 1994 edition and it is only 137 pages long so it's a quick read. Set in the late 70s it gives a compelling portrayal of some of the trials and opportunities that gay men faced in what was still then a very homophobic and 'trying' society. The threat of HIV/AIDS is present but obviously nameless.I enjoyed it. There's much to be learnt as far as the continuity between then and now and the ways gays remain apprehensive about their everyday existence in Jamaica even as some settle down in relationships that might not be as domestic as the ones described in this novel. That may be my biggest problem with this novel - much of it is centered on the home - home-making and home-breaking. This might reflect the struggles of the time...I don't know...but at times it felt like the action was far too circumscribed by family life, a hetero-normative search for stability and a lingering debt to uncaring or else indifferent parents. The one piece of home-making I didn't mind is the illustration of the kinds of networks - for all kinds of support - that gay men were forming at the time and which perhaps transcends the idea of a family even as it incorporates some elements of that model.Though some moments are hilarious, this is not a funny novel hence the title of this review. It's not, however, depressing.Those who do not read or understand patois need not worry. Though Powell gives a nod to creole grammar, any English speaking person can get into it fairly easily and will lag a little less after about the first 20 pages.If for no other reason, you should buy this book because it is the only one I know of that makes a novel-length attempt at situating homosexuality with Jamaican (maybe Caribbean) social life. Both the social scientific and literary canons of the English speaking Caribbean have and continue to silence queer voices. Powell's contribution at least resists that orthodoxy and really gives you a window into a whole other side of Jamaican life.

"A Small Gathering of Bones" offers one of the most genuine renderings of Gay life in the Caribbean in print. It shows with refreshing accuracy the spaces Gay men have created within Jamaican society as well as their challenges. Powell's writing creates surprising and intimate textures of male life. "Small Gathering" gives the lie to many stereotypes of Gay life in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
