I thought this would be about blending dry herbs to create tea blends. Instead, it details how to brew various exotic teas, many of which have uncommon ingredients like granadillas, lemon myrtle, and black tapioca pearls, to name a few. Interesting, but I doubt I'll ever use the information.

First off, this is an excellent reference book for tea combinations; that is, mixing various true teas with herbal teas to create unique teas. What I mean by "true tea" is that tea from the Camellia Sinensis plant, in combination and/or mixing of other plants that yields the many herbal teas. Ms. Hatfield's recipes are unique and fun to create, well tested and easy to follow. Just as mixologist uses alcohol to create mixed drinks, this book is a guide to making special mixed tea drinks. So if you are tried of drinking the same old tea, no matter how good, mixing makes it even better and this book tells you how to make your new tea combination.

What a great book. The combinations are healthy, different and I am looking forward to trying them out. I am looking at the green tea, rose and nettles to start, which is great for women's health.

This book had great variety, it is unfortunate I live somewhere where some product isn't readily available, otherwise, I'd be trying every recipe!

I've only tried one tea recipe so far but man was it good. I look forward to trying the others. I have this on my kindle and the lay out is great. Thank you

While I was reading this book, I saw that author Evan Thomas mentioned Joan Biskupic's biography of Sandra Day O'Connor (titled Sandra Day O'Connor) as a source (one of many sources) while writing the book. I found a copy of that bio, first published in late 2005, and read both books, comparing as I went along. Both writers make an effort to portray O'Connor as more than a Supreme Court Justice, going into her childhood and career before the Supreme Court. Both authors did interview O'Connor, although Biskupic's interviews were conducted as part of her reporting on the Court, while Thomas interviewed O'Connor after her retirement specifically for the biography. Thomas's biography included some sources that Biskupic didn't have access to such as John O'Connor's (Sandra Day O'Connor's husband) unpublished memoir and his diaries. Thomas also discusses O'Connor's life after her retirement, while Biskupic's book ends just as O'Connor is retiring from the Supreme Court. Thomas interviewed many, nearly all, of O'Connor's law clerks from her Supreme Court years, giving a little extra insight into her day to day activities at the Court.Still, I came away thinking that if you had to choose between the two books, you might do better to read Biskupic's than Thomas's. For instance, Biskupic showed how O'Connor had been political well before her rise through the court system -- she had even lobbied Nixon to nominate a woman to the Supreme Court (she endorsed a colleague, but it's easy to believe she thought she herself might also be a good candidate) and had been active in Republican politics since serving on Barry Goldwater's presidential campaign. Biskupic was also more descriptive about William Rehnquist's views on race, leaving the reader with little doubt that he had racist views, while Evan Thomas glosses over the subject with a footnote mentioning rumors of racist behavior. This was relevant to a book about O'Connor because Rehnquist and O'Connor were very close (even romantically close at one point in their college years) and decided almost identically during O'Connor's first years on the Supreme Court, although as time went on, she broke with the conservative bloc more often. The Bush v Gore decision comes across as a shockingly poor judicial decision in both books.Both books are full of interesting inside the court information as well as fascinating analysis of court cases and how they were decided.

Among the Justices who have served on the Supreme Court since the start of that institution, Sandra Day O'Conner ranks among the very best. This 400+ page biography provides the reader with the story of how she became the outstanding Justice she was. It also provides insight into the workings of the Supreme Court.Sometimes, it comes off as a bit fawning or a bit dismissive of her faults. That is normal in the realm of biographies, especially those that rely upon family cooperation and the cooperation of the subject to get written (as this one did).Hers was a brilliant mind, brought down late in life by Alzheimer's. Her husband John preceded her that way; in fact, his Alzheimer's was the reason she retired. John gave up his career for her to be on the Court, so when he became disabled she felt it was her turn to give up her career for him.I reviewed the advanced uncorrected proofs, but found few errors. Though the cover shows a single author, Evan Thomas, the book was actually written as a joint project with his wife Osceola. The quality of this text (actually written in Standard Written English, excellent wordsmithing, and good rhythm to the prose) immediately gives the impression he has done this before. At the time of this writing, Thomas has nine books to his credit.From the cover and first inside page, you get the impression this book is about her being first. There's a list: 35 years before Hillary Clinton secured the nomination, 32 years before Sheryl Sandberg leaned in, 16 years before Madeline Albright became Secretary of State, 12 years before Ruth Bader Ginsberg joined her on the bench, and 12 years before Sally Ride went into space. Other firsts are mentioned throughout the book.While this is an important theme in the book, along with the gender discrimination barriers she broke, it's not the central theme. The central theme is how, for quite some time, the Supreme Court was the O'Connor Court. Hers was often the deciding vote, and we see her fine legal mind at work in the reasoning behind her vote in the many examples provided by the author. Unlike the other Justices (generally), she was looking forward to the effect a given decision would have in the future and what its ripple effects and backlash might be. That, by definition, made her both a visionary and a leader.As a leader, she avoided making offensive or belittling remarks about other Justices or their decisions. The great jurist, Justice Scalia, lacked this restraint and that is why (IMO) he was passed over for Chief Justice when Rehnquist retired. She wanted the Court to be respected, and that meant keeping high standards of behavior in communication and decorum.She also had serious concerns about the breakdown in civility in Congress and in our political system generally. Another concern she had was that, in our lay citizenry, the level of ignorance about civics is profound (my words, not hers). Some years ago, a law firm commissioned a study of college seniors and found that only 40% could identify the three branches of government. On a multiple choice question. On and on it goes, and this is a huge problem. Even sitting presidents incorrectly identify our type of government; Teddy Roosevelt managed to replace a bicameral Congress with two popularly elected chambers, and more recently GW Bush repeatedly referred to our government as a democracy. In a civics-savvy country, these things would not happen.Some years ago, I watched a documentary in which Justice O'Connor and Justice Breyer gave a civics class to grade schoolers. She showed them how small our Constitution is (she always carried a copy in her purse, too). And they both explained its basic concepts.Recently, I was involved in a petition drive to stop a particularly egregious act of fraud and corruption on the part of the local government. The First Amendment protects our right to "petition the government for redress of a grievance" and yet many people I spoke with did not know this. Most people believe the First Amendment gives you the right to be rude to other people, but they have no idea it protects your right to speak out to the government. It's these kinds of things that Judge O'Connor saw long before being nominated to the Supreme Court.I don't know if it's an unintended or intended consequence, but Evan and Osceola Thomas have paid the ultimate tribute to Justice O'Connor by showing, in a very interesting and engaging way, a few things about how the government works. For that, I am sure her family and friends are grateful.This book consists of 16 chapters, and runs just over 400 pages (including photos). The narrative follows pretty much in chronological order. The book is exhaustively researched, as both the Notes and Bibliography show. But it's one thing to read a written source and take notes from it (that was one way this book was researched) and quite another to spend hours interviewing a person (and then another and then another) from one to a dozen times to get information. All the collating, cross-checking, and sifting of this information was no minor chore. I really appreciate what the authors have done.This book makes an excellent addition to anyone's personal library.

Historically, women's health was framed within a biomedical model by clinicians. Textbooks typically used a biomedical framework to present women's health content. Although this approach can be useful on many levels, it also has limitations that can have significant negative effects on women's health, particularly gynecologic health. A biomedical model is disease oriented and focuses on curing illness--an approach that risks pathologizing normal aspects of female physiology. When a biomedical lens is used to assess women's health, there is a risk of essentializing women and reducing them to their biologic parts. As an example of this proclivity, women's health is frequently used to mean reproductive health, regardless of whether the woman plans to bear children. This reductionism transfers to practice when a woman's parts become the focus of diagnosis and treatment. The meaning of the diagnosis to the woman, as well as the impact that the diagnosis has on her, her significant others, and the work she does, is not addressed in this approach.Feminist theories about women's growth and development provide a different perspective from earlier male-oriented models because they include women's lived experiences and the importance of relationships to women. Recognizing each woman as an expert knower supports women's agency. The focus with this approach is holistic, with health being assessed within the context of each woman's life. It is important for our readers to know that we, as the editors of this book, are experienced women's health clinicians whose practice philosophy is grounded in caring for the whole woman within her lived experience. As teachers, we were repeatedly frustrated by our inability to locate a gynecologic textbook that we felt was suitable for our course. Many of the books that were available were written primarily from a biomedical perspective and, in our opinion, did not provide sufficient content about the normalcy of women's reproductive physiology. Books such as those authored by the Boston Women's Health Book Collective were extremely helpful with ideas about health and holism, but lacked the necessary content to educate student clinicians. Other books did not provide the health-oriented perspective that is vital to the philosophy of care espoused by nursing and midwifery, in which we both strongly believe. Additional books provided elements of both biomedical and health-oriented views and had very useful decision trees or categorization of concerns or problems. However, we felt that these books would not encourage students and practicing clinicians to think critically and to appreciate the importance of making decisions based on the most recent evidence.For these myriad reasons, we embarked on producing a book that presents women's gynecologic health from a woman-centered and holistic viewpoint. Our goal was to create a book that emphasizes the importance of respecting the normalcy of female physiology, and provides clinical content appropriate for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of pathology. We believe this book embodies these perspectives and underlines the importance of collaboration among clinicians.Some aspects of this feminist approach will be obvious to our readers, whereas others may be more subtle. For example, we used illustrations of whole women, rather than pictures of only breasts or genitalia, when possible. We refer to a woman who has a specific condition rather than referring to the woman by her condition. For example, we speak of the woman who has HIV, as opposed to the HIV-positive woman. We use the term birth as opposed to deliverybecause it situates the power to give birth within the woman versus transferring it to the clinician. We purposefully use women's rather than gynecologic as the first word of this book's title. Our intention in making these deliberate choices was to encourage readers to keep first in their mind that they are treating a whole woman, not her body parts, and not just a condition. We hope that this approach emphasizes the importance of treating women holistically within their lived experiences.We were fortunate to have many excellent contributors to this book. Some are nationally known; others might be new to many readers. The common thread among all of our contributors is their expertise in their respective areas and their recognition of the importance of evidence-based practice. Our contributors are expert clinicians, educators, and scientists. Frequently co-authored chapters represent a clinician and researcher team, whose collaboration provides readers with a real-world view that is grounded in evidence.This book encompasses both health promotion and management of gynecologic conditions that women experience. All of the content is evidence based. The first section introduces the feminist framework that permeates the book and provides readers with a context for evaluating evidence and determining best practice. The second section provides a foundation for assessment and promotion of women's gynecologic health. The third section addresses the evaluation and management of clinical conditions frequently encountered in gynecologic health care. The fourth section provides an introduction to prenatal and postpartum care.We are gratified by how well the first two editions of this book were received by clinicians, students, and faculty, and it was an honor to receive the Book of the Year Award from the American College of Nurse-Midwives for both previous editions. In this third edition ofWomen's Gynecologic Health, we have updated, and in many cases extensively revised, all of the chapters from the second edition to ensure comprehensive content that reflects current standards of care. I could not recommend this text higher. Worth every penny. Basic yet chock full of information. I am a new FNP working in family practice and in Public Health/Family Planning. As such I see a variety of patients and obviously many female patients in need of well-woman checks, contraception, STD testing and treatment, pre and post-natal care, etc. This text provides information on health promotion and management of a variety of healthcare issues. If you work in women's health in any way, I recommend you invest in this book. I also recommend you look into the following books. I got this book for my FNP women's health course. It is very informative, and they have powerpoints that outline the chapters very well! I find that the powerpoints make this book better by providing key points but also referring you to text for greater depth of information.

This was a required book for my MSN/WHNP degree and it was one of the most helpful books for me during the program and I still use it as a new NP as a quick reference. It gives a thorough explanation of various women's health issues without going so in-depth and complex that it loses your interest. The book also arrived on time and in good condition. I cite this book often in my metrics courses, specifically for its eloquent description of applying the GQM Goal-Question-Metric approach in the context of IT security. GQM is an excellent way to tease out and elaborate on the business objectives for IT security, leading to metrics with a genuine purpose and value other than someone's personal preferences. It runs out of steam when it comes to choosing between, shortlisting and selecting from the plethora of possible metrics that GQM generates ... but we picked up that very thread in PRAGMATIC Security Metrics: Applying Metametrics to Information Security.

I've been running a security program for over 10 years and once in a while a book or reference comes along that truly helps me in my work.Lance Hayden's "IT Security Metrics" is one of those. My expectations were not terribly high as I've found most other metrics materials quickly devolve into near academic debate fodder. Thankfully in being able to preview a sample on the Kindle I was sold pretty quickly.There is a prescriptive quality to the book that makes me stop as I'm reading to make notes and begin working on them. Despite his exhaustive academic background it seems Mr. Hayden also has a very solid real-world experience and blends the two in a way that I do not often see. Therein lays the value of this book in my opinion. Rather than simply telling us how to continue to slog through the daily barrage, or taking a highly ethereal, idealistic high ground position, this book describes in practical terms how we as security practitioners can systematically improve.More importantly Mr. Hayden puts this improvement process purely in the context of the business we are there to support. Far too often security authors seem indifferent to the business implications of the art that we practice.If you are looking for an A to Z checklist, this isn't for you. If you are an experienced IT security person then the methods and approach Lance Hayden suggests will take immediate root. It quite simply makes sense. There are some books that I have to force myself to pick up, this is one of those that I have to force myself to put down.My only suggestion to Mr. Hayden -- turn this into a workshop!

It's a nice book for people that don't have a way to start identifing security. Usually the proplems that are listed on the book are caused by IT itself that don't understand the business and like to think they are the core of the company while they are just a middle manager area.If IT manager accept that they are there to assist business decisions and help to identify risk and business continuity issues instead of just claiming for more Money and support, it will be much easier to achieve the good metric.

Would have love to see something a bit more prescriptive with a companion selection of excel spreadsheets and pivot tables to present and track the metrics. Overall a worthwhile read, but with the scarcity of time, it could have been much more concise and garnered a highrr rating.

Dr. Hayden's writing and messages are clear, well written, engaging, and downright USEFUL! Theory and Real world examples(from Cisco) are presented in a clear, engaging style. I loved this book from the beginning to the end. This story kept my attention from the beginning to the end. The story is about the singer's life. It tells you about his childhood all the way to his adulthood. The struggles of trying to make his dream come true, his tragedies and obstacles, and making it to the top. What a great read.

I must confess I am a huge R Kelly fan. I've seen him perform a couple times and will go to see his shows everytime they come my way. I was excited to read this book because I like his music so much and so I was looking forward to learning more about him.At first I found it difficult to engage with the book because of the conversational tone - seemed like someone just transcribing R Kelly talking. However, I eventually found the story powerful enough that I ignored the writing. I was truly fascinated to learn some of the details of his life especially his struggle with dyslexia. I am in awe that someone who reports being only barely able to read could write so many powerful songs.There were definitely parts of the story that were skirted over. His relationship with Aaliyah is never mentioned and the dissolution of his marriage seems glossed over. I also was longing for more info about his friendships and relationships with his siblings.The book talked a lot about his childhood and early career. His tenacity is definitely inspiring. He doesn't appear to pretend to be anything other than who he is - seemed willing to acknowledge his eccentricities and quirks.I learned a lot about his music and his collaborations with other artists. Despite how one might feel about his sometimes disturbing personal life his musical genius cannot be denied.I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of R Kelly. The book serves to show that humble beginnings do not mean a life of mediocrity. I think the book also does a good job of showing some of the down sides of fame.

I have always felt a strong connection to R. Kelly, and I never quite understood why, but after having read his memoir, the answer has been revealed. Our artistry runs in the same form. It was so weird hearing how R gets songs to come out of him. Like R, I never chase a story or words, story and words automatically come to me, which is why he's been so successful all these years.I learned a great many things about him, and I felt his sincerity and honesty shine through on the pages. For as gifted as he is, I was very surprised to learn of his mental handicap, which I feel he's dealt with perfectly. He doesn't delve deeply into his love life much, but he does touch on it. Soulacoaster is about R's musical journey, his pains, his struggles, his losses and his faith. He did a beautiful job taking the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride, and there were some parts that touched me deeply and brought me to tears because his pain was so heartfelt and truthful.I have always been a fan of R. Kelly from the moment I first saw him on a talent show called Big Break, hosted by Natalie Cole. I remember watching the night his group won and I couldn't help but to wonder who this sexy soulful singer was. And who knew that decades later, I'd find out who that man was. Everything he went through was for a purpose, and I'm proud to say I own every single recording that he has ever put out. I never judged him, like so many did, about the child pornography scandal, because in my heart of hearts I just never quite believed what the media and folks were saying, and he put that scandal to rest in this book.He does start out telling the reader that there are many details and some names that had to be changed to protect the innocent, and also for legal reasons in which he could not divulge all, and I applaud him for that. I can't stand when celebrities tell things just for the sake of selling a book, and R. Kelly did not do that. He has always been my musical hero, and he will continue to be. This was an outstanding book, and I'm so glad I got to read it. If you love memoirs, trust me, you will not be disappointed with this one. I wish R. Kelly all the continued success he deserves, and I'm truly his biggest fan! Well Done!

I really enjoyed reading this book. I learned some things about R. Kelly that aren't generally known. He doesn't go into the whole Aaliyah thing, but everything else is there. If you're expecting some eloquently written book laced with impressive vocabulary, you'll be disappointed. If you read it with an open mind and accept it as the straight-forward, simply stated book that it is, you will definitely enjoy it. R. is one of my favorite musicians and his concert was one of the best I've ever seen (Prince was the other LOL). I have always been a fan of this chocolate drop even through his drama. I definitely recommend this book if you're interested in the man who is R. Kelly.

I give Soulacoaster a 4 because of the honesty R Kelly reveals about his personal life journey. I've read other bio's that has felt sugar-coated. I didn't experience that with this bio. What I loved most about this book is how in depth R Kelly explains his gift of music. In regards to his public trials and scandals, he only provides details of how he mentally got through it, but doesn't go any deeper into the circumstances. I'm okay with that and feel other readers will be too. There isn't anything to dislike about the book unless you're hoping to get more info into his personal sexcapades, if so, you'll be disappointed. Great job R Kelly and thank you for sharing your story with the public.

The fans of R.Kelly get to enjoy a ride inside the mind or should I say "Soul" of a musical genius of a particular era. He starts off with his childhood and thanks God, his mother, and a music teacher throughout the book for recognizing the call on his life. The front cover alone is what grabbed my attention, but I was able to see what goes on in the mind of someone who makes such great music, and has no problem switching genres no matter what the naysayers might think of it. I don't want to spill it all, but if you are looking for him to discuss his relationship with Aaliyah, you are going to be highly upset because he does not.

Gill's prints pass his personal, perhaps metaphysical relationship with the grain of each tree trunk or piece of wood cross section on to the viewer.  As you stare at the many circles, you find yourself entering into a sort of mental maze, asking some of the same questions Gill must have asked – how old was this tree, what caused the aberrations in circular patterns, what insect damage occurred, what are the coloration variations.Of course, one can look at these prints and simply be attracted by their abstraction and geometric playfulness.  To others, they are simply graphically pleasing. But what makes Gill's work special is the personal "records of my connection," as he expressed it.One might ask, wasn't he just copying? The answer, emphatically, would have to be "no." In every step Gill exercised his creative talent and artistic eye –  in the tree or board he chose, the particular crosscut he singled out, the painstaking way in which he prepared each surface, the ink used and the how he extracted the patterns, circle by circle. If you aren't able to purchase one of Gill's large monoprints, this book may be a good second option.

I bought this book after having viewed an exhibition of the artist's work. Like most books of this type, it serves as a record of the work and the process the artist used to create it. The actual prints, of course, are much larger and vivid than the reproductions in the book. Beyond that, the book goes into detail about the living history of the trees extracted from study of the cross sections portrayed in the prints. A good book to study on a cold winter night.

I really like the idea of this book, when I got it I was a little disappointed by the prints. I thought this was more of a coffee table picture book, there's a lot more text than I was expecting. That may be a silly complaint, I was just expecting more artwork inside. :)

Wish it was a larger format book. It's quite small for an art book, but love the woodcut prints.

Purchased this for my landscaper of thirty years who knows everything about trees. He loved it.
