Just completed this Botony curriculum with my third grader. She LOVED to read this on her own and discuss it with me in the evenings. The projects were fun and easy to complete. Excellent from the scientific standpoint as well. I am a biologist and chemist, by trade. It is very difficult to satisfy my requirements for science curriculum and Apologia surpasses expectations.

We have enjoyed all of the Apologia science curriculum that we've tried so far, but this is my favorite of all of them. It is simple and well presented. It is probably the shortest and easiest to read of the series. There is also lots of opportunity to go to your back yard or a near by park and explore what you are learning about.

This book, combined with the Notebooking journal, make for an easy science to teach! I don't know tons about "Botany" but this spells it out! There is a guide for if you plan to take a year or half a year to teach the subject AND if you are in warm or cool climate! Nice. It reads well too. There are a lot more references to Gods creation in this subject, as opposed to Astronomy (we just finished that one.) The journal offers a chance for the students to be creative while remembering what they are reading or hearing. As a new homeschool parent this year, I appreciate the layout and helpful hints!

I love, love, LOVE this book!!!! This book is fantastic. I have always been interested in botany but most school books bored the tar out of me. This book is so interesting. Page after page of scientific facts and names but explained simple enough for someone with ADD like me. I love that they constantly reference bible facts along with all of gods creation. Not just random bible facts, lol, but ones that always go along with the lesson and proves that there are lots of scientific facts in the bible. :). I highly reccomend this book. For homeschooling, and even just for your personal referance library. :)

Using this for my first graders being home-schooled. We love it! She is grasping so many awesome concepts due to the fun activities provided, and it encourages self-learning. We've gone outside or to YouTube to look in deeper depth at the awesome plants it talks about.Looking forward to Zoology next year!

My kids, then 10-12yrs have both enjoyed reading this series. They are really written well for kids and don't feel like a dry textbook. I give them only 4 stars though because too many of the projects are arts & crafts and if they're real science experiments they don't work. Teaming up with another science teacher that's stronger in developing experiments would be earn it the 5th star.

Purchased this book for a Co-op home school meet. I was surprised at how much detail is given in the book. I even learned some things!

This is a great book to use for homeschool families with children of different ages. I use it for my newly 8 year old, 11 year old and 13 year old. I do modify the lesson a bit for my 8 year old. Lots of interesting information, even for me! Makes you want to learn more!

Jeff has been involved with open source for over eleven years. He started using Linux professionally at the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he was a Senior Systems Administrator and Programmer for the Computer Science department. He most recently worked at the Oregon State University Open Source Lab (OSL) as the Operations Manager, providing technical and organizational leadership to the OSL while working closely with the many open source projects hosted there, including Drupal.org, the Linux Foundation, and the Apache Software Foundation.Jeff has extensive infrastructure experience, gained over the years. As the Operations Manager at OSU Open Source Lab -- the largest open source hosting infrastructure of its kind -- he led the infrastructure and development teams; he is deeply involved in the CentOS Linux build and release process as a member of the QA team; and he works as a volunteer for the drupal.org infrastructure team. Jeff currently maintains a number of packages for the Fedora Project and Fedora's Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL), and serves as the Lead Systems Engineer for multiple Tag1 clients. He lives in Vancouver, Washington.Narayan is a co-owner of Tag1 Consulting, who joined the team in 2008. I normally don't get much out of the O'Reilly books, and generally only skim them to get a basic idea what I should be searching for on the internet. This one was different. Even in areas where I thought I had already done a pretty good job of performance tuning, this book mentioned a few things that were worth checking. In areas where I knew I needed to put in a bit of effort still, it was a very valuable resource.The book does not really go into great depth on exactly what configuration you should use for a particular architecture, so expect to still have to put in a bit of effort and think through your own problems. It does, however, cover some unexpected performance draining scenarios that are likely to be very common even among reasonably experienced Drupal shops.

I couldn't get into this...probably because I bought the wrong book. I'm a developer looking to configure and custom build a system off of Drupal. However, this is really geared toward performance, troubleshooting and efficiency of deployment (as it says in the product description but goofball me didn't read before purchasing). It seems very good for it's topic, though.

Covers the very basics, but doesn't touch advanced configuration of things like memcache or apache. Good for beginners.

I'm in the middle of a very large Drupal deployment with over 4,000 Drupal sites and large volumes of traffic. I haven't gone through this book completely but so far I have found many of the chapters were able to fill major gaps in Drupal community documentation. It also felt like you were reading from actual experience and not theory or pretty pictures and flush. It looks like it covers every major choke point that I have been planning for as well as many that I didn't see coming.

I'm still reading this book, and I'll probably have to read it a few more times, but this has my life written in this book! You may not even realize that you were shamed or guilt ridden, because I didn't look at my youth like that. My parents still think this is the correct way to teach children, and they've even wanted me to raise my children under these incorrect ways. I've refused to raise my children like I was raised, and it actually makes my parents really angry with me. My counselor recommended this book to me, and I am so glad that I'm reading it! It is sure changing the way I feel about myself as a human being. I am learning that I don't have to be or do everything perfectly to be accepted into society. That issue all by itself has made continued to haunt and stress me out. I highly recommend this book if you have any of the issues listed above regarding how this book can help yourself, your siblings, or your friends. It will open a whole new world for anyone who, like me, doesn't feel like they fit in, have self esteem issues from childhood, or isolate themselves from the outside world. I'm not claiming it will be an immediate quick fix, but with patience and following through will make it so worth it!

I just finished reading a 130 page book written by Jane Middelton-Moz titled "Shame & Guilt - Masters of Disguise", this book opened up my mind and heart to consider the possibilities of why some people cannot follow through with their words. I found myself relieved after finishing this book because for once someone finally put into words what goes on in reality in our inner worlds in practical, concise and work-able terms. I highly recommend this book to every one so you may discover the signs of how we sometimes decide to not face, feel or free shame and guilt. If we do not grasp the masters of disguise that influence us to behave on the surface to fulfill other agendas; our lives will continue to unconsciously spin out of control and we will not know where or why we were lead astray.What personally struck me was remembering how I suffered for a long time extreme shyness, embarrassment and feelings of being inferior to others. There was a time in my life that it was most desirable for my circle of influence for me to stand by with a smile on my face and say nothing. There was a time in my life that I was isolated for articulating how disconnected my perception was from the larger crowd. This isolation served as means for others to punish me with shame and guilt or hide from their own shame and guilt.

You have to get through the first chapter and the book is good. The only problem I had with it is that there is really no solution to the shame and guilt that you have been through. It explains how these feelings got there in the first place. Good read. Will definitely help me to not raise my children with shame and guilt.

There are a vast number of books on shame currently and their number increases daily. Shame is the new problem for human beings; where before there was other evaluations. However, this book is clear, easy to read and does a marvelous example of illuminating this debilitating problem. It is short, to the point, and invaluable.

This book is pretty great if you have any history of being shamed and resulting guilt problems. Think if you ever had parents or a significant partner in your life who constantly put you down, expected you to live up to unrealistic expectations, and made you feel like you had no value. Particularly if this happened in childhood when you had little in the way of skills for dealing with that sort of treatment.It is written in a fairly easy to read format with "fairy tale" examples that are pretty clear on all of the concepts, so it's not a super dry read either.The only complaint is that parts of it are a little repetitive.Still, it has helped me to see how my childhood effected the way i relate to people today and made some of my least healthy behaviors much more evident but also something I can understand instead of feel ashamed of.Great therapeutic book.

Excellent book on shame and guilt, I recommend it to everyone of us who wants to have a strong and clear understanding of this internal behavior and who wants to start a path to recovery. Thanks to the author for this excellent material.
