This is another outstanding episode of the Violet Darger series. While the story would be enjoyable as a stand-alone novel, I think it's best if the stories are read in order. In this book, FBI Special Agent Violet Darger is still recovering from her injuries in her previous book, but she has been recently cleared to return to duty. At the request of her partner, Special Agent Victor Loshak, Darger cuts her vacation short in order to fly to Detroit to assist with what sounds like a routine homicide investigation. Once she gets there, she realizes that this is perhaps a bit more involved than originally thought. As usual, the story is fast-paced and engrossing, and I had a hard time putting it down. I don't want to give spoilers, but there's a bit of a cliff-hanger at the end that has me eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.
Brutal, raw, and deadly, “Bad Blood†paints a picture of a ghost city named Detroit, a terrorist-type evil of a younger generation of Mafia, and twisted justice. This book is hard-to-put-down, and I know it will stay with me awhile. Unfortunately this storyline seems very realistic.FBI Agent Violet Darger has spent the past six months trying to recover from a bullet to the head. She still has debilitating head aches she takes narcotics for. When she hears from her partner, Loshak, about an interesting case in Detroit, she convinces him to let her join him for a few days. Violet has a vacay planned with her lover, Owen. What is more important to her? Violet is not a team player! Investigating on her own could get someone killed. That part is annoying; it’s like the person in the movies hearing a noise in the basement and going to investigate alone. You know?Violet doesn’t always think clearly, but this storyline is exciting and entertaining. The ending is a total surprise!
Another Violet Darger novel in mah belly! This one is not the usual fare, though the level of craftsmanship still remains. Organized crime and a stone cold hitman join with an ex lover and crooked cops to bludgeon Violet with headaches from hell. She doesn't work as closely with her senior partner Loshack in this case as in the past, and I first thought that was a pity for the reader. The investigation is a different sort than before as well, which left me less breathless with excitement and anxiety. Initially I was ready to award this novel with less stars, for both of the facts I just stated, but...These are GOOD things, realistic things, and showcase the great diversity the authors are capable of. Darger need not be pidgeon holed into the role of David versus the Serial Killer Goliath each time she appears. The FBI performs other investigations too! There's kidnapping, drug related crime, trying to prevent a presidential candidate from being elected, organized crime, and much more! Loshack is a great character, but its unreasonable to believe he would be within arms length of Darger in every case. The hitman is a machine, but the authors manage to humanize him. Humanize him so well, in fact, that the reader is bereft of the movie cliche one dimensional killing machine that excuses everyone from passing judgement. This is a good thing, as we all contain elements of good and bad.In retrospect, this isn't the time chomping, anxiety filled Violet Darger novel we have come to know and love, but it's a great read, for all the differences. Plenty of twists and turns between the covers to keep you reading on, and a good deal of peril too!By the end of the book you'll be struck with all the anxiety you thought was missing, and then some! Now, I must head out to a Coney Island for some victuals!
This book is different. Darger and Loshak are working a case that leads them into a dangerous web of organized crime and corrupt law enforcement. I like the story and the character development in this book. I like how Violet has this new crisis of conscience to work through. So far the books have focused on the killers and our favorite FBI agents solving the crimes. But now Violet has to question the world around her in a totally new way. Great story, great character development. Oh yeah, and a seriously scary crime ring of brutal killers. And dirty cops. Can't wait to see what happens to Violet next and and how she grows from this experience.
A gripping thriller about the mob and features Violet Darger. Violet is one tough cookie and this story was very well written. I highly recommend this book. Tim and L.T. you did it again....I am still reeling!
Another violet Darger book and another amazing book by these two authors!! I simply love this series and the characters that these authors developed. The stories keep you on the edge of your seat and, personally, keep me up way past my bedtime!! Violet is such a complex character, one who places justice for the victims above all else. And in this book, you really see where he allegiance lies. I was not surprised by her decisions in this case and how strong her convictions are in finding those responsible and doing whatever it takes to bring them to justice. And then I got to the last page of the book. My jaw is still dropped. I do not want to give anything away but I sure hope Vargus and McBain are somewhere right now working on the next one. The suspense is killing me. Great book and thank you for the time spent enjoying it!
