I love James Patterson and have read everyone of his books. I, Michael Bennett was such a disappoinment. You get to the last page and think "What the hell just happened, did my Kindle drop some pages." You don't know how the books ends. How long do we have to wait for a sequel. I'm late to the party for this series of books from James Patterson, but that doesn't mean I was disappointed in not having know about them. I just need to keep my eyes open better for future books in the series.NYPD Red is a specialized unit of Detectives in the New York Police Department who are tasked with solving crimes that involve or revolve around the wealthy, politically connected, or just plain old celebrities. In other words these Detectives and their Captain need to know how to handle the elite and their harsh personalities.In this first book of the series the city of New York is trying it's best to lure the Movie and Television Industry to come to New York and make more flicks there instead of in Hollywood. Unfortunately a disgruntled and disturbed individual wants to sabotage the week of events scheduled. So, this person sets about to start murdering people who are wealthy, connected and part of the Hollywood scene.At first it seems like just one murder, but as the bodies pile up the NYPD Red team his overdrive to try and solve the crimes.There are a bunch of little sub-plots that run through the novel involving the two main detectives, Detective Jordan and Detective McDonald. It seems they have a past dating relationship and that causes some issues. BUT, they are the top two Detectives in New York and they have a very unorthodox way of solving crimes, they break the rules!Having worked with police officers as a police chaplain I found the descriptions of the characters very accurate and reasonable even though people might think Patterson has exaggerated them a bit.Will Jordan and McDonald be able to stop this crusader / murderer before he or she can kill hundreds? That's the question and the heart stopping action will keep you reading.Enjoy!

This book is extremely expensive for what it is. If you can get a used copy from a friend you should do that. It is just the tax code and regs, nothing special.

I am taking a Basic Federal Income Tax class at my law school. I am only half way through the semester and this book has not contained three important tax codes so far. I am behind in my class and will have to hunt for a more comprehensive version of the Code. Would NOT recommend.

An unusual adventure, thriller fantasy about novelist Thomas Hunter who finds himself in a semi-paradise whenever he dreams that is so real that he believes that this world is the dream, except when he dreams in that world and wakes up in this. From going back and forth, he finds himself instrumental in both worlds -- instrumental in their salvation and damnation -- even as he learns increasingly of their connection. That's as much as a spoiler as I'll provide. Bad points: Characterizations are rather weak, descriptions of the other world are almost cartoonish, action and plot are pretty unbelievable, and I didn't like how God was portrayed. It is a little too much like how many like to view God: like a sweet innocent child who likes to cavort about. One other thing, I don't like cliff hangers, which this story is. Yet, for all of its faults, I still liked it and am contemplating reading the next in The Circle.

This is the first book in what is one of my favorite series. Whether you are reading it for the first time or reading it again, you will be mesmerized. It reminds me of a modern Chronicles of Narnia with a grown-up twist. I couldn't recommend the series more. I would recommend you read Black first.

This is a great book for people who like fantasy and science fiction. The story opens with a few men discussing how to create a virus that will kill everyone and then making countries pay for the antivirus. Then the story changes to Thomas Hunter in Denver. He injures his head and when he blacks out or sleeps he dreams he is in a different reality. This reality is so real that it makes Denver feel like a dream. I won't say more because it will spoil the book. I am now reading the second book; Red, and enjoying it as well.

Thomas Hunter, a want-to-be writer, is living a life that bounces back and forth between two worlds. One is real and the other is a dream, but which is which. Or are they both real. At the same time? Are the events in each tied together somehow or are they truly independent of each other? So many questions to ask by individuals in each “world”, yet the answers don’t make sense, or do they? The ending comes up abruptly and then again it isn’t really the end.Does Thomas encounter God and if so is that one reality heaven? Read and judge for yourself.

Only my second five star review. Creative concept involving someone living in two different time periods during "dreams", which turn out to be interconnected realities and not dreams. Love the theological concepts woven into the plot during the future time period, which reminded me a lot of a Garden of Eden in which God lives in close relationship to God's creation until the patriarch gives into temptation. I immediately started reading the sequel "Red".

I had a bit of a hard time getting into the book at the beginning with the jumps from world to world (I'm not THAT fond of sci-fi) but once I adapted to the story line and crossover to the other world, this book (and the ones that follow) really grabbed me! I love the way Dekker paints a picture of Gods amazing love for us. That God would love after the betrayal and denial is so amazing and such a difficult concept. We typically try to put God into a human box and if God was like us, by the time we come around to even looking into who He really is, we'd have blown it past any hope of redemption. But these books really show you in a powerful way that God is not to be boxed into our human frame. He may be a lion, a lamb or a boy... And that our sin really hurts God but that He makes a way. Definitely a 5 star story.

I've read every novel Ted Dekker has written (and will continue to do so). Every time a new one comes out, I hope it'll be better than his older novels, and am slightly disappointed when they aren't. I'm sure there are people who will disagree, but I think Dekker's older novels (Circle Trilogy, Martyr's Song Trilogy, Thr3e & Obsessed) are the best he's written. Don't get me wrong: I like all of Dekker's novels, but my favorites are his older ones. I bought the Circle Trilogy a few years ago, read it, then sold it to fund my voratious book reading habit. Recently I regretted selling them, and just purchased another set that I will NEVER sell! Dekker's next novels - a six series set, is loosely tied to the Circle Trilogy, and so I'll be reading them again before his next books come out in February 2008.Buy the Circle Trilogy and enjoy some of the best Dekker has ever written.

My LO can't get enought of the Berenstain bears books - the early books. The origional books have such clever rhymes and antics that I love them and so do the children. They are nightly reading in our house and some of the stories my kids have memorzied within a week and they read it to me.

My daughter loves this book so much that I have almost memorized the words already. I have loved Berenstain Bears as a kid, and I am glad to see the stories I remembered and cherished as a kid, to be in this one book. Love it!

Very disappointed in this book! We have other berenstain bears books and the stories are great, the whole family loves reading them. So when I saw that this book had great reviews, I grabbed it. The "stories" are meant for really young kinds. My 3 year old wants nothing to do with this book, and to be honest, I have zero interest in reading it to her. I think in another 6 months she'll be able to read it by herself, maybe that's when this book will come in handy.

We love this collection!! My son is 2.5 and he has already memorized the box story. I love the simple things tese teach...directions, he and she, old isn't always bad, imagination, counting, addition and subtraction, creativity, clues, and asking for help! Haha. Just Great!

This is a pretty good mix of books, some are simple and some are more wordy stories. We should be able to use this book for a number of years to help our child learn to read.

My nephews love this book. Everyday they get to pick a book to sit down and read for an allotted amount of time (they can read longer if they wish). The stories are engaging and I know they are wholesome because I read the same stories when I was their age. It's teaching them a variety of words and they love the quality of the pictures. A+!

My 3-1/2 yr. old grandson is absolutely thrilled with this volume of stories. He loves them for read-aloud stores, and enjoys just looking at the pictures by himself. It was the perfect gift!

My 2 yr old son loves these big Berenstain books. He asks me to read them every night, and even has some of the stories memorized.

A fantastic book! I watched Amy's video that I found scientific at a very comfortable level (I am a scientist) so I was wondering about the way the book was going to be written. I must say it is written very similarly to how the video presentation went: pure pleasure, not too low and not too high in style and language. Very enjoyable.While I have not yet finished the book, I grab every minute of wait anywhere to read a page or two, so far my overall impression is that this book should be read by all. One need not have a friend or relative with Alzheimer's to be educated about diabetes mellitus (type 2) leading to Alzheimer's and other health conditions, as well as why scientists searching for the cause of Alzheimer's along the beta amyloid plaques are likely looking at symptom, rather than cause, and why most everyone would benefit from a reduced carbohydrate diet.She also explains how diabetes mellitus starts by insulin resistance of each organ separately rather than the whole body at once--this is known to all doctors and scientists (at least I hope it is known) yet still only the A1C blood test is offered for insulin resistance, which doesn't show any problems until insulin resistance is systemic. Amy also explains how important it is to start eating "right" (low carbs) from early age of 20s and 30s because the changes in the brain/body occur so slowly that by the time symptoms appear, it may be much harder to fix or too late. Prevention is the key.I highly recommend this book for everyone who wants to plan a healthy feature with healthy longevity.

I purchased the paperback version of this amazing book. I have to say that I have honestly NEVER highlighted and annotated a book to this extent EVER. Amy Berger guides us through a tour of the root causes of this disease at a cellular and intracellular level. She does a fantastic job of using just the right amount of humor and provides simple visual analogies to help you understand what would otherwise be a complex subject. I was literally coming to points in the book where I was saying "WOW" out loud. I could not wait to share the information with my wife.The real question is...does it work? IT DOES! My mother in law has vascular dementia and has lived in a memory care facility for two years. She is now back home with us due to the poor care she was given and multiple medication errors. Her short-term memory was completely shot and she was often anxious, fearful, and depressed. She was declining fast both physically and mentally at the facility (which started feeding higher and higher carb meals towards the end). We now have her on a very low carb ketogenic diet. We are also adding MCT oil to various meals (titrated up from 1 tsp to 1 tbsp per day over a couple of weeks). After three weeks the depression and fearfulness are gone. The anxiety is greatly reduced. Today she actually remembered one of her caregivers whom she had not seen in 24 hours (she typically couldn't remember at all). Her countenance is also different and more "alive" and "warm". Her sense of humor is back. Her caregiver see's a definite improvement and is now a believer. She assessed her at a level 4-5 prior to this change in her diet and remarked that she would now assess her as a level 3-4.I am so thankful to Amy Berger for providing this very important and extremely well-written book. There is no doubt in my mind that it will be an invaluable learning resource for the millions of families suffering from any of the various forms of dementia (Alzheimer's). GREAT BOOK!

It's one-stop-shopping that combines information available in separate books on some of the basics of nutrition, the cholesterol myth, the dangers of statins, the dangers of the low-fat, high-carb diet and food and cooking recommendations as well as other lifestyle factors.I have read quite a few nutrition/health books over the years, and some are a bit more technical than I can drag myself through, but Amy has presented the information in a way that anyone can understand. I've been known to glaze over and skip to the bottom line at the end of the chapter, but I didn't have to do that with this one.There is some serious myth-busting here. We desperately need to shift our thinking where our eating is concerned. Sugar and carb addictions have turned us into people that live to eat rather than people that eat to live. I couldn't put this book down. I share a story similar to this mother's except my loved one is a young, African American male who also has schizophrenia and is more likely to end up dead or in jail as opposed to in and out of the hospital...but i digress. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is dealing with a child with schizophrenia. The author touches on her son's elementary, middle school, and high school years (before he received a correct diagnosis) and then more so on his young adult years and multiple hospitalizations. It was clear to me early on in the book, that Ben had schizophrenia because he exhibited many of the habits as my son before he started taking medicine (court ordered): mood swings, argumentative, shouting, talking to imaginary characters, unable to sit still, not sleeping at night, strange rituals, carrying a notebook around, etc. The narrative Included the ups and downs that come along with a mental illness. I identified w/mom's sense of helpless and not being able to control the situation. I love, love, love it that the writer/mom includes helpful information throughout the book such as information about the National Association for Mental Illness (NAMI).

I am a new mother to the adult child mental illness world. It is so overwhelming like trying to find your way through a war zone with no help. Not knowing where to go how and where to find help . How to get him to go for help. How to get past the denial and get him in for help. How to pay for it. How to get him to talk to me with out shutting me down because he won't except that he needs help. I'm so lost and afraid of losing my son.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for publishing Ben Behind His Voices. My 29 year old son was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective disorder 6 months ago after 6 hospitalizations over the course of 2 1/2 years. Having witnessed a downward slope in his mental illness over the last 6 years, 2 years in particular, I needed this book, your words, to help me walk with someone while I come to grips and accept his illness, not as a result of anything I have done. Letting go has been a process and its not to say that I don't have moments of grief but at least I am encouraged that we are not alone.

Being a parent of a 23 year old son with schizophrenia, a social worker, and one with a family history of schizophrenia I never the less struggled with my son's behavior for three years until his diagnosis by the hospital staff during his first hospitalization. I therefore really appreciate the author's detailed description of her son's prodromal behaviors and symptoms. Doctors, therapists, and the general public need much more education in this area! Several therapists (myself included) did not even consider this possibility. Once diagnosed I was able to adjust my expectations of him and no longer engaged in futile arguments to get him to be more reasonable. I also greatly appreciated the author's detailed descriptions of her parenting as it helped greatly to relieve niggling fears and guilt that if only I had been stricter or provided more structure my son could have avoided such a severe illness... It was clear from reading Ben's story that causation at this point in time is still very much a guessing game. Kudos to the author for her contribution to this field. So much more needs to be known! .

I’ve been on this journey in the world of schizophrenia for eight years with my family member. In many ways, Randye’s story parallels ours.It’s important to hear other’s stories so that we know we’re not alone. Randye also adds guidance at the end of each chapter with critical information for anyone on this journey.I’d recommend this book to anyone, whether or not you’re dealing with schizophrenia in your life.

Just finished reading this amazing book. What an eye opener. My family is currently living the battle of mental illness with our high school aged child. So much of that portion of the book resonated with me. Although, we are not dealing specifically with Schizophrenia (it is a different mental illness) this book has helped me in ways that I can not put into words. I thank you Randye for sharing your pain, frustration, love, hope and joy with us. For me, it has given me a new strength to face whatever may come down the road. Anyone who is dealing with mental illness in their family should read this book.

From page one, I have felt that the author has lived my life and shared my feelings. I too have a teen, a daughter, who was incredibly bright, social, and vibrant. I too have struggled to comes to grips with the "new normal" in our house. If you are struggling through figuring out how to be the parent to a schizophrenic or schizoaffective young adult, read this book. You will FINALLY feel like you are not alone on this path. Someone else has been through what you are going through. Buy the book!

I am truly impressed with Ms. Kaye - as a mother, an author, and an advocate for Ben. She faced the specter of mental illness in her son and found a path to success.My own journey through the mental illness with my husband lead to his death. I was unsuccessful in getting him the help he needed although I tried my best. I know there are others like me who found getting their loved one the help they need to survive to be an insurmountable obstacle.I was relieved to read of one family who found a way to help the sufferer. Thank you, Ms. Kaye for infusing some hope into a seemingly hopeless scenario. Schizophrenia is a daunting diagnosis. But those who have it deserve to be helped, understood, kept safe, and most of all, they deserve a chance at life.Ms. Kaye does a superlative job of demystifying the navigation of the mental health system for anyone. She offers a plethora of ideas, tools, and resources that can be used to help a mentally ill person. Knowledge is power, and Ms. Kaye does her best to give readers as much as she can.

I love to eat Japanese dishes. Beautiful pictures of the final products.

I'm glad I got this book. It brings back memories of when I used to go over my friends house for the holidays. His parents would serve up these delicious and yet simple meals. Got this book yesterday and made four of the dishes already. The ingredients in this book is easy to find in most Asian markets. The recipes are simple and they taste like I remembered. Muriel Miura began her career as a home economist with Hawaii's Gas Co. She's hosted her own cooking shows. One of them called Cook Japanese which was aired on Hawaii Public Television in the early '70s.She's also an author of numerous cookbooks. My mother gave me this book a year ago when I wanted to make some Japanese food for my girlfriend (non-Asian). I liked it because the recipes were easy to follow, worked well, and had Japanese flavor and Hawaii flavor. I also like it as a Japanese-American cookbook, and being Japanese American, I don't see them too often. While it might not be the most "authentic" Japanese food (it's close), it is authentic Japanese Hawaii food and well worth the price.

Great recipes of Japanese Cooking as they do it back Home.... this is a GREAT cook book and I bought it on a recombination by a friend!

I am the 13th reviewer (out of 20) to give 5-stars to ‘Data Structures & Algorithms in Python’. The book deserves it. All code is, as it should be, in the current Python 3.Some background, last year I taught myself John Zelle’s excellent ‘Python Programming: An Introduction to Computer Science’ and continued with Head First Python. These books are excellent if you are new to programming or new to Python. I had two programming classes as an undergraduate in college but that was 20 years ago. In the last 6 months, I’ve read Dasgupta’s excellent ‘Algorithms’, the UC Berkeley and UC San Diego Algorithms textbook, which demands considerable Math.This ‘Data Structures & Algorithms in Python’ textbook includes everything in Sedgewich’s excellent ‘Algorithms’ (Java-oriented) textbook (Object-Oriented Programming, Algorithm Analysis and Design, Arrays, Stacks, Queues, Trees, Sorting, Searching, Graphs, Strings, Pattern Matching, etc.). Best of all this textbook is dedicated to Python. As a Data Scientist, I want to become an expert at Python before moving on to Java or C++. This book is enabling me to become that Python expert.Thank you for writing it, Drs. Goodrich, Tamassia & Goldwasser. I like the content of the book, but the quality of the print is so bad. Pages in Chapter 9 are printed inside Chapter 3, and the pages that were supposed in Chapter 3 are gone. Many pages were printed one on top of another, like the picture shown. How am I supposed to read a book like this? Very disappointed.

This is the second copy of this book I have purchased - and from a different seller. BOTH of these have been the Indian printing that is illegal to be exported out of India and sold elsewhere - like in the US.

This book is really good. I got the international edition, but the contents covered is very beneficial. Looking forward to completing this book over next 3 months

I find that the first two chapters are great for learning python. Very concise and easy to understand. The rest is wordy and uses a lot of mathematics to explain, which a lot of it is just unnecessary and makes things more confusing. They are all PhD's so I guess they have a disability of thinking in plain English.

If you want to go deeper into data structures and algorithms whilst at the same time using python as your programming language, than this book is all you need.There are many examples that follow the explanations to each of the most important (as well of the minor ones) data structures or algorithms. This makes it easy to understand the concepts and to apply them.The authors often offer alternatives to the algorithms such as a in-place alternative to a algorithm that uses a help array. They also show the content in such a way that, whenever possible and appropriate, they build on top of previously presented topics, also making it easy to augment the knowledge you previously acquired.Recommend for students or for someone preparing to a programming interview.

The book covers all the basic data structures and algorithms covered in a second year course in my country (Norway), the code examples are also good. What is not good is the price. The material in this book is not worth over 175 USD. For less than 30 dollars you can buy Lambert's "Fundamentals of Python: Data Structures" which covers the same material and also has full code implementations. For 60 USD you can buy Sedgewick's "Algorithms" which is one of the best books on algorithms and data structures, and which has full code implementations and visuals to trace the code. It's also far more in depth than this book.This book is nothing special and I just don't understand how publishers have the heart to set these disgusting prices ripping off poor students. I am giving this book a 3-star rating not only because of the content but also because of the price. Some people say this is not right, that only the content should be reviewed. I disagree. When you pay prices that are morbidly inflated, then you should get something more than your average data structures and algorithms book written in black and white. I'm not gonna give a Toyota Prius a 5-star rating if it cost me as much as a Ferrari even though it's a decent car. Stay away from this book. Teach the publishers a lesson. There's just as good and better books for much much less.

The book itself is excellent but the quality of print is poor. The pages are see-through and thin. Some pages are also printed on wrong side (as shown in picture) and have hair-like marking.
