About the Author

Jim Halderman brings a world of experience, knowledge, and talent to his work. His automotive service experience includes working as a flat-rate technician, a business owner, and a professor of automotive technology at a leading U.S. community college for more than 20 years. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Ohio Northern University and a Masters Degree in Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Jim holds a U.S. Patent for an electronic transmission control device. He is an ASE certified Master Automotive Technician and is Advanced Engine Performance (L1) ASE certified. Jim is the author of many automotive textbooks all published by Pearson Education. He has presented numerous technical seminars to national audiences including the California Automotive Teachers (CAT), the Illinois College Automotive Instructor Association (ICAIA), as well as a member and presenter at the North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT).   Jim was also named Regional Teacher of the Year by General Motors Corporation and outstanding alumni of Ohio Northern University. the book needs more wiring diagrams . The new ASE tests have lots and lots of wiring diagrams . The book does have lots of sample question but you will see them over and over in different sections . I wouldn't recommend this book for the price it should be around 20 bucks . I am a certified tech and if you are looking for a book to study i would recommend motor age or delmar .

When you first open this book all you get are are style questions for each ase. From transmissions, brakes, engine performance and etc. you get answers at the back of the book, but no refresher on the basics before you take the questions. Unlike the delmar learning books for each ase. A lot of useful questions but not for the beginners looking to take a ase

I tested for Electrical and Engine performance 3/15/16. A lot of the material that was on the test was not covered like diagrams and schematics.

This is not a book for people fresh into the field. This book is little more than practice tests for each ASE and is meant for seasoned technicians to see where they might struggle. The book does what its supposed to do, however, that in itself is worth a five star rating. There are numerous misprints and missing diagrams that detract from its overall quality, which is why I only gave it three stars.

I chose this book due to its title; the synopsis also grabbed my attention. Megan's story is truly tugging at my heart. I feel no need to judge here, Megan's Mom also seemed to have her own issues. As a former mental health counselor, I do not like the use of "if only...." and so on.I am saddened and angered by what happened to Megan, her childhood and innocence was stolen. I am not angry with her, as you shouldn't blame anyone who's been violated. I am preparing to start the second and eventually move on the the third book. I think Megan is a strong woman and sharing her story took a lot of courage. Hopefully this has been therapeutic for her, will help other young ppl. Her "boyfriend," Jak (personally, I could think of other names or things to name him) - he deserves to rot.I am not even sure how to rate this, it is nothing about Megan, I just feel if I rate it low or high I'll seem disrespectful & hardened toward Megan - I do not want to appear that way. Where ever Megan is today, I hope she is happy, safe, and thriving. She deserves to feel cared for & safe - everyone does.

This explores in depth how someone can be lured into sex trafficking. Meghan shows how her past made her a perfect target, and then she expands on the gradual progression toward a life I don't desire to imagine. Previously, I pictured only scenarios where kidnapping or a forced dependency on drugs such as heroin were employed before the first terrifying experience. Meghan’s case is different. Her first experience hit me in the middle of my abdomen and stole the air from my lungs, which it should have, and it did. This telling of this story is extremely important to not only bring awareness to the hordes of women (many of which are children) trapped in the worst nightmare, but to make it real for all of us. It's one thing to watch an episode of SVU. It’s another thing to read a first person account of a fourteen-year-old’s descent into hell.My only criticism is that in order for the narrative to have the greatest impact, I feel that it should be told all at once and not broken into three parts.

This was pretty boring (part 1) -- it has the girl talking about how her mother neglected her because the mother was drunk and "hungry for love" then turns around and says "but I don't blame her". The girl's subsequent sale as a sex-slave looks like a clear case of parental neglect.It's a story that is important to read, but it is really badly written. I didn't feel like buying the next two parts after reading the first

I have not read parts 2 and beyond. Part 1 ends abruptly in an inconvenient spot. Perhaps this is to entice you to purchase others to find out what happens, but for me, it was "so not cool" to stop where it does! The writing is good and keeps you wanting to read more to find out what happens, however... Some of the scenes do not make sense in how the events occured. Perhaps this is the point. It doesn't make sense, how this can happen to people. If you are an avid reader that 'needs' to have an ending and season ending episodes drive you mad, I would recommend to purchase all the parts prior to beginning.

I enjoy reading Dark Erotica and was intrigued by the description of this book. But i have to agree with some of the other reviews. Why would any parent decide "Oh...ok.....i'm going to leave my 14 y/o daughter in a foreign country with a man who says he loves her"? Sorry but i had a hard time wrapping my head around that one. Sure...at that age....a lot of girls have the fantasy of fairy tales and happily ever afters but Mom should have stepped up her game and said "absolutely not"!Won't purchase the other 2 books.Sorry to give a bad review for this.

disliked the idea that one short story was split into 3 parts just to make more money. Read whole book in 2 hr never bought the other 2 parts. poorly written.

Sadly, this book is part one of a series of three. I got started reading, saw that I was nearly finished with it, and, wondered how the story could wrap up so quickly. At the end of the book is a link to part two. I really hate being left hanging like that. I much prefer a true story to be in one book, unlike fictional series.

My heart broke as I read this story. I was captivated right from the beginning and the struggles the author faced. Forced to grow up and deal with the realities of the world at far too young an age, she does the best with what life has thrown her way. I can not wait to read the next installment.

This is an absolutely beautiful and brilliant book and a MUST for every songwriter or even that person with a song in their heart. Sarah Sheppard combines beautiful photos with word prompts that get the songwriter's creative juices flowing...in fun and clever ways. If you're not a songwriter...it's a beautiful book for the coffee table...but warning, even you may be tempted to pick up a pen and write a hit song! Congratulations to the author, Sarah Sheppard, on a job well done!!!

This is a very pretty book. However, I was a little disappointed. The prompts are not all that unusual, and they are spaced out in a way that, although pretty, is not really necessary. I would have liked a more condensed book.

Beautifully illustrated book- though it is slim, it is chock full of great song-writing ideas. An excellent buy!

Love this... As one who writes songs, I hadn't written to prompts before, be they, word lists, settings, or titles... I visited Virginia City a few months ago and rode on a restored V & T train. It was a lot of fun. I wanted learn more about the history surrounding the train. This is an excellent book about the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. In fact, every "Images of America" book I have purchased has been excellent. I have around 15 of this series now and will be purchasing more. When I am looking for a history of something specific in the United States, this is the first book series I go to. I hope they keep expanding the series.

The book is very comprehensive and descriptive of the V&t history. I grew up two blocks from the V&T roundhouse in Reno and my mother took me along for it's last trip to Carson City. The book is very complete and brought back some forgotten memories of the old right of way and out buildings that stood for a long time after. Excellent history of it's service. Restoration of the route between Virginia City and Carson City now provides rides using the old engines. Worth a visit.

Great in-depth telling of a proud and sadly long departed piece of Comstock history.

I am a big fan and supporter of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad - the famous Nevada shortline that purportedly hauled the equivalent combined weight of all of its' track, locomotives, and rolling stock in silver bars during the heyday of the Comstock silver strike that it was constructed to service. The V&TRR was noted not only for the beauty & quality of its' picturesque Victorian period steam engines and passenger cars, back in the day, but also for the fact that so many examples of its' 1800's vintage equipment have survived intact into our modern era. The railroad and the men who created it, and profited from the wealth of the Comstock Lode that it hauled, are equally entwined in the colorful history of the American west.The story of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad has been well chronicled in many books over the years by a variety of authors who share a passion for the diminutive rail line that borders on romantic love! Railway historians and V&T 'addicts' such as: Lucius Beebe, Ted Wurm, and Mallory Hope Farell have all produced previous paeans to their favorite railroad in lavish volumes of photos and purple prose that cover every angle of the story. With so much excellent coverage already in print it is nice to be able to report that the latest monograph on the subject brings still more new and interesting visuals and stories of the fabled rail line to light. Much of the credit for this achievement is due to the background and credentials of the book's author: Stephen Drew. Mr. Drew is a well respected railway historian, now affiliated with the California State Railway Museum (which possesses and displays several of the V&T's restored jewel-like locomotives) and he has had a long personal relationship with the V&T. He brings his scholarship and unique knowledge and appreciation for the subject to this slim volume and provides an excellent new addition to the roster of V&TRR books.The physical size of the book is relatively modest, but the printing quality and photo reproduction are excellent throughout so the small size does not seem an issue. The format of the book presents most of the information in the form of 'captions' accompanying a myriad of archival photographs. The images provide examples of all aspects of the V&T throughout its' history, including sections on the Comstock mines & mills, the Lake Tahoe based lumber and flume-ing industry, and many of the notable personages involved with the railway. People (such as myself) who may be familiar with the other, previously noted, publications on the railroad will doubtless find that some of the photographic images have been reproduced elsewhere before - but - there are also MANY images that are previously un-published... definitely much fresh material to be enjoyed! A most complete overview is provided that should satisfy both V&T 'fanatics' and those less familiar with the story. Personally I'm very pleased with this new edition and would recommend it to anyone interested in the subject matter.

This book is a photo essay of the history of the V&T RR from its start in 1868, to its abandonment in 1949, to what it is today. It is full of great and rare photos, several of which I have never seen before. For anyone interested in the history of the V&T, is well worth the money.

I hate to doubt anyone who claims to be abused as a child, as I work with abused children, but there are certain elements in this story that I question. I have read most of the books in this genre, and there are some accounts that sound more likely to have happened than others. That's not to say some parts of the story aren't true, but I really question some of this account. Even books like A Child Called It, have been questioned as far as veracity of the entire story. Other reviewers have brought up the same questions, so I won't go into them, but if you want a read a really well-written story in this genre read The Field Guide to Betrayal. The writing in this book, Call Me Tuesday, wasn't bad compared to others, I mean some don't even have suitable punctuation. I prefer the other book I mentioned, TFGTB, as the child is definitely of a survivor mentality. Where some of these books are great for calling attention to abuse, they tend to make you wonder what is fact and what is fiction. I realize memoirs are the recollections of people and they can differ based on who in the family is telling the story. Regardless, kudos to the author for bringing attention to a sad topic.

The day after I finished this book (in two sittings), a very unusual obituary made the news. In it, a dead Nevada woman's children welcomed her death and described their utter contempt for her after years of physical and mental abuse, in the hopes of getting people talking about the problem of child abuse. It was a horrific reminder that child abuse is all too real, and it happens in all walks of life. When you read "Call me Tuesday," you'll realize very quickly that you simply cannot make this kind of story up.Behind a seeming normal, middle-class Southern facade, the author, known as Tuesday (for the actress Tuesday Weld), describes an unenviable childhood that turns unbearable after severe head trauma transforms her mother into a sadistic jailer who denies not only love and comfort, but food and most other basic needs. Her mother revels in the way that other children ignore and mistreat her daughter, as it only confirms her belief, which she drums into her daughter, that the girl is ugly and defective. Even her father, who makes some gestures to help her enjoy brief moments of normality outside the home, is caught up by his own helplessness in the wake of this tornado of an abusive woman. He isn't the only adult who fails to help, either.I don't think for a moment that Rose, the mother, was "normal" to begin with. As the story unfolds, we learn she always had a cruel streak, and very likely enjoyed, Munchhausen by Proxy-style, being the pitied mother of a sickly child. It seems likely that Tuesday was always the discounted one, an afterthought (not to mention, free labor) whose distress at the belief that she was responsible for the death first of a family pet and then her polio-stricken sister was roundly ignored. When her mother emerges from the hospital as some kind of character from a horror flick, Tuesday is already easy prey.What saves this memoir from maudlin self-indulgence is author Leigh Byrne's confident, believable voice. You really do feel like you are traveling along with Tuesday on this hellish journey through the eyes of a child, then a teenager, sad and wise beyond her years. This is a once-in-a-blue-moon type find, and I look forward to the continuation of the story.

I bought this book 3 days ago and found it so well-written and compelling, that I stayed up all night reading it. As soon as I finished reading Call Me Tuesday, I immediately bought her second book, Call Me Cockroach. I finished reading the second one this morning.I highly recommend both books... unless you are one of those people who had a golden childhood and you cannot imagine any parent, especially a mother, hating her precious little girl and violently abusing her, almost to the point of death. As for me, I do not have any doubts whatsoever about the truth of this story. I had a momster very much like Tuesday's. The details are different, but the pain and the deep psychological wounds are the same.I am so grateful to the author for writing her memoirs and sharing them with the world, so people like me can know that we aren't the only one... and to show us the way to healing (as much as possible), and to a happy, fulfilling life. I am especially grateful, because I know how hard it is to put this kind of story in writing. I first tried to write a memoir when I was in my early twenties. Today I have a granddaughter in her early twenties, who is a graduate student at Harvard, and I am still trying to write my memoir.

I am halfway through this book and just love it. Very well written and extreme eye opener. As I turn the pages, I keep wishing I could get my hands on this monster who calls herself a mother. The definition of a mother is not just giving birth, but the care and love that goes with it. I could never have children and would have given anything to be blessed with the opportunity. I have always thought though, that you need a license to drive a car, but anyone who can get pregnant is allowed to go home with a living being and be trusted to do the right thing. Just so sad and I know this story is just one of millions out there in this world in similar conditions. I cannot wait to continue reading and I pray that Tuesday gets justice in the end.

This book is a must-read for any family of faith. It helps children understand that God, an abstract concept, can be perceived in concrete things and situations. I gave it four stars instead of five because my four-year old wasn't incredibly excited about it and it seemed a little drawn-out to me. That said, we will continue to read it during devotions because it is a very valuable tool for helping children know God. I think that it would also be an excellent book to read to Sunday school classes and even a conversation starter for youth and adults.

I recommend this book to all of my friends! It's such a great way to talk to your child about God, regardless of religious denomination.

Introduced to this book a few years ago by a friend's rabbi during a children's sabbath celebration, my husband and I were quite impressed. The art is so inviting to look at. But more importantly, the content is worth sharing with children you want to share a positive image of faith with very early on -- whether they are children who share your own religion or are in another religion that you respect.We are Christian and have now shared this lovely book with children in our congregation, children in other Christian denominations (both Catholic and Protestant) and children being raised with Jewish traditions. We hope it will be a blessing to many -- adults and children -- as it has been to us.

I bought this book about a year ago for my daughter (now 5 and 1/2) as she had started asking a lot of questions about God. One of her friend's Mom's saw the book at our house and thought it looked nice and wanted to borrow it. I decided to order one for her. This book doesn't try to answer some very difficult questions about God, but it does try to give the child the sense that God is everywhere and is a part of our lives all of the time and in every situation. It is simply written and beautifully illustrated. A great book for children of any religion.

Very well written for any religion or regardless of religion.
