Just started reading this book and it is thusfar great. Dr. Monroe goes in great details in the book about the children of Israel coming out of Egypt in bondage of the mind and refuse to change causing a 30 day journey 40 years. It relates to christians today that in order to move up with God we have got to renew our mind. He also shares insight on the garden in which which Adam had management over and when he failed to manage what God expected of him with the forbidden fruit, Adam started the blame game of who allowed it to happen. This is so true today that our society has become professional in blaming others for our plight.This is a must read about management and mismanagement of what God has entrusted us with and how important it is to constantly renew our mind daily and as the word tells us, and to examine ourselves to make sure we are on the right track with renewing our minds. It sheds a lot of understanding on the children of Israel coming out of Egypt and the fear of something new kept them in bondage. I have worked with prisoners and this book really help me understand their mindset and even when they are free, and thinking they can make it in this society, their mind is still in bondage. It applies to our daily lives that change and the price of freedom is not easy, and we have to be presistent to change. I have been reading Dr. Monroe material for decades and he has yet to fail me. If you want to be liberated in your mind to move up in and with God, this is the book explaining why some achieve liberation in the mind, and some of us just stay in bondage becoming professional blamers and underachievers. Well done Dr. Monroe.

Even from the grave Mr. Munroe gives relevant and practical instruction for living ones faith in the 21st Century. He unashamedly takes the gloves off and punches religious, political, community and personal mediocrity in the face and demands no nonsense proactive responsibility on the part of the reader. If you do not want to accept the responsibility of living your destiny and being an agent for change, do not read this book.

I find this book very good and easy to read. The way Dr. Myles Monroe simplify and break down his explanations captures my interests so that I don't want to stop reading and learn more. When I learned that he was passed away it felt unfortunate because this type of teaching is so needed right now. Thank God he recorded materials that can still help a lot of people.

Myles Munroe wonderfully states the power and purpose of man's role on this planet and the true source of freedom. Everyone interested in being free should be required to read this book.

Fortunately, I know the sound of Dr. Monroe's voice, so when I am I'm the act of reading, it's actually his voice and not my inner voice that my brain utilizes to narrate. Firstly, the story of Oak Island is a full of many people such as explorers, investors etc. So it does not come as a shock there are many characters to follow. This is especially true since the author has included all the history since it’s discovery in late 1700s. However, I found it very bogged down with many details, some I found unnecessary. I was also disappointed that while he gave extensive details on theories, he completely glazed past the ivory whistle that had been found on the island. Previous to reading this book, I had never heard of the ivory whistle and I consider myself a big fan of the show. He mentions it once and gives no details of how it was found, who found it and where it is now. These details is what interests me about the entire conspiracy. I am less interested in every little detail of how big the shafts were created. The extensive history he gives on every theory (and there is many many theories) lost me. I became bored over this far fetched and wordy description. I love history but even as a history fanatic, the relation to the history he provided and Oak Island was far stretched. Overall, it was very hard to follow and I found unorganized in thought. Perhaps he could have organized each chapter by a time period of exploration. This would have made things more clear. He jumped around so much it was not enjoyable to read.

Randall Sullivan has gone above all expectations and delivered The Most in depth history of Oak Island written to date. He gives an honest inside look at the past and present treasure hunt on Oak Island and this is a MUST READ for any Oak Island enthusiast! The book is filled with facts and Randall took his Rolling Stone article and built a literary monument of a book. His style is so palatable that even pages and pages of accounts of past bore holes are intriguing again and each theory is weighed realisticly and with solid facts. I’ve followed Oak Island for a while now and I absolutely enjoyed every page of this book! This is the real story behind the hit tv show also, and the Truth about the people behind it and the people involved in the hunt. Sullivan is an excellent & experienced writer, highly recommend it.

The book was well researched and well written. It flows well without dragging. The book covers the 200+ year long history of the search of/for the Money Pit through the current TV show with the Laginas. This book fills in a lot of the details that are mentioned only briefly on the show. The book also does a good job of tying together pertinent information. Like why finding Shaft 6 could be an important break thru in relocating the Money Pit's location lost since the collapse in 1861.Sullivan does a great job in debunking some of the more dubious theories presented by both past treasure hunters and in the War Room guest theorist episodes. The historical research and explanation of the possible involvement of Francis Bacon is well done. Good read, highly recommended.

I was looking forward to this book.. I have seen some of the episodes of the series, The Curse of Oak Island, but not all of them. Mr. Sullivan did tons of research , I found the book a little lacking. I would have liked more information about the men, past and present who obsessed about the Money Pit, and more about the archaeological dig. It was a valiant effort on Mr. Sullivan's part. Just wished the book had a little more meat to it.

Having watched nearly every episode of The Curse of Oak Island I decided to buy this book after seeing the author on the show. The book is very well researched and mentions details that are not in the show. The only complaint I have is the chapter on Francis Bacon; it is way too long. I nearly lost interest part way through that chapter. I would liked to have read more about the current search and the people involved.

If you only read one book about Oak Island, this is it. Describes the history from the beginning, the people, the theories, the books, major articles, and the amazing finds recently made that literally influence the history of this continent.For all the "dry" aspect of the history the author does an excellent job of putting excitement and intrigue into the story. I was not disappointed and highly recommend this book even if you have been a faithful follower of the show as have I. Many insights into the show and events surrounding the making of it. GREAT book!!!!

A great read. Yes, it's full of details. The book is very well written and takes the reader through 200 plus years of information up to the present day TV show. For those of you who had negative comments about the book, I'm not quite sure you actually read it. Kudos to Mr. Sullivan, a job well done.

I almost didn't buy this book because I read an unfavorable review on another website. For an Oak Island aficionado, this book could be required reading. It is extremely informative and the author develops the timeline of events in an authentic manner that reflects the research he has done. The tie-ins to the television show are entertaining without distracting from the overall story. I could wish for maps and pictures. I hope he will be able to issue a new edition when the Lagina brothers find the treasure.

Reading this book made me uncomfortable for a lot of reasons. I was a young marine and part of the volunteer group that first went into Hue at the beginning of the battle. My outfit was 2/1, then at Con Thien, so I was only in Hue at the beginning and took no part in the serious fighting that came later.I thought the book was carefully researched, and well written, and as honest as he could be. My criticism is only that the author glosses over the fact that journalists did have a staggering effect on the fighting, and often their stories did fuel the anti-war movement back home.It occurs to me that if journalists had written about the Battle of the Bulge in the same tone that Walter Cronkite and others portrayed Hue, we would have sued for peace with Germany.However, the book is painfully accurate about what it was like to be in Vietnam, in the Tet of 1968, and what it was like to be in a firefight. I took no exception to his portrayal of those in leadership as being both competent and incompetent because it’s true of any organization. And I appreciate the portrayal of marines and soldiers who might not have ever gotten a thank-you back home, but who proved themselves hero’s every day.I recommend this book to anyone interested in the history of the battle.

5 StarsIf you only ever read one book about Vietnam, you could do a lot worse than Bowden’s “Hue 1968.” Other good choices would be Karnow’s “Vietnam: A History” and Sheehan’s “A Bright and Shining Lie.” However, Hue 1968 delivers not only the facts of the American tragedy in Vietnam , or even a particular point of view of the facts, but it also accurately depicts the feelings of the Americans serving in Vietnam, as well as those of Americans at home, and the Vietnamese who could not escape the war.I was a young marine in Vietnam at the time of the Tet offensive in 1968. I was not an officer and had no strategic view of the conflict. I didn’t even have a clear tactical view of the events in which I was directly involved. That said, Mr. Bowden’s book is such a profound telling of the events that I can almost smell the rice paddies. It is exactly this ability of Mr. Bowden that allows us the readers to either relive events from our own past or experience them ,as nearly as possible, as events that are worlds apart from our experience. He did it in “Black Hawk Down” and and again in“Guests of the Ayatollah.” And now he may have written the best book of his lifetime.Recommended: Absolutely.

Mark Bowden is an outstanding writer. I read a lot of books about Vietnam and Mr. Bowden goes into so much detail, that you really can put yourself right there in the battle. In fact, I was there. On January 31st 1968 I was with Echo battery2/11 in Phu Bai, the night the TET offensive started. We supported 2/5 at the time. Although I didn't set foot in Hue at the time of the battle, we dropped some 155mm shells on the city. We kept saying "why is 2/5 having such a hard time up in Hue". Little did we know that there were 4 regiments of NVA and VC in the city. I went back to Hue last year and visited the old imperial capital. When I walked down Le Loi street, I was overcome with emotion thinking of the Marines that were wounded and killed in that city.

This is an excellent book about a decisive battle in the Vietnam war that I had never really known much about despite reading several books about the war.If you've read any of the author's other books, you'll know what to expect--excellent research, good writing, accounts of both the macro and the micro issues. In this book, while the author provides some coverage of both the North Vietnamese and US (as well as civilians), most of the book concentrates on the US, in particular the Marines. The book is pretty even-handed between the sides, although there are few accounts of the actual fighting from the Vietnamese side. The author also provides in epilogue in which the subsequent fates of the many of the people is described, which is always nice.While the author paints a very sympathetic portrait of most of the marines and soldiers caught in the fighting, he generally has a veryr unflattering view of US higher commanders, who simply wouldn't believe that the North Vietnamese could take and hold a major city, because it did not conform to their preconceptions of what the enemy was capable of, or what strategy they would adopt. As a result, for several days after the city had fallen, US commanders sent laughably small contingents--individual companies of a couple of hundred men--to retake the city, occupied by up to 10,000 enemy troops. Commanders on the ground were ridiculed for their incompetence and timidity for their failures to retake the city, and ordered again and again into futile attacks.Westmoreland in particular comes in for withering criticism; he seems to have been so completely hoodwinked by the North Vietnamese that they were planning a major attack on Khe Sanh (which never came), that he dismissed the rest of the Tet offensive, and the battle in Hue in particular, as diversions by the crafty enemy to distract the Americans from the impending battle at Khe Sanh.I wanted to mention a few minor criticisms which didn't detract much from the book for me, but maybe more important to others:--the book includes too many characters which are mentioned a couple of times in the book, but that's it. This is particularly true for many of the civilians trapped in the city, but also for many of the soldiers, such as a Marine captain who was there from the first day of the battle and then rejoined the ARVN unit he advised in the citadel for the second half of the fighting--what was his experience with the ARVN troops like? Generally, it would have been interesting to find out more about the experiences of more people mentioned in the book.--speaking of ARVN, for some reason the author does not really cover them at all;--the author focuses almost exclusively on infantry, marines, and tankers, but it might be been interesting to hear from some of the sailors on the Mike boats, the helicopter pilots, etc.--while the book includes some maps, I think that more maps would have been helpful.

This book is a really fun read. The concept of combining the graphic novel interface with the traditional cookbook works really well for this idea. This cookbook really addresses the basics of Korean cooking. I really enjoyed it because Korean is one of my favorite types of food to eat (by myself or with a group) and I love the concept of banchan.This book is entirely done in a "comic book" style. This means that every page is covered in color and images. It is very engaging, but I found myself missing the photographs of the items you are making. The book is neatly arranged, you have the welcoming pantry section that outlines the variety of ingredients/tools that you will use in the book, then a little description of each. Knowing so little about what I'm looking for in a Korean grocery store, I think I would like some brand names or pictures to help guide me. I know not all brands are created equal, and if I'm looking at buying a huge tub of gouchang paste, I'd like to know if I'm getting a good brand or a flavorless one (this is a common rant of mine for another day, not this book's fault).The rest of the book is sectioned out by category of food: Kimchee and Pickles, Seafood, Korean Fusion, etc. I was enthralled by the Kimchee and Pickles section because I find the kimchee to be really fascinating. I've asked several Korean's I know if they make it, and most of them leave it to their female family members (which means they do not know how it is done). There are a variety of kimchee recipes discussed here and they all seem to be relatively easy to accomplish. I want to start with them (despite the odd things fermenting food at home can end up like) and then move on to some of the more difficult dishes. I really enjoy that the recipes and ingredients are all mostly fresh and seem to include minimal cook time. However, some of the more complicated dishes I enjoy eating were not included, so I have to branch out and see what other cookbooks (or the internet in general) can offer.I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.

This book is much more than a cookbook! You learn about Korean food and culture through entertaining comics, and the recipes show you how you can make many different dishes using the same handful of staples. The illustrations (there must be 100s) are adorable and descriptive. I especially love the gorgeous watercolors that mark each new chapter--the paintings somehow make the dishes look more delicious than high-res/styled photographs would. Even if you don't cook you'll enjoy the author's stories told through comics, the amazing artwork on each spread, and you'll probably end up cooking some tasty treats from the book!

R. A. Walker's husband here. My wife bought me this book as a treat while I was out of town visiting my mom. I have read it thorouh twice now (and when was the last time you did that with a cookbook?) and I have to say that I am totally in love with it. I have a pretty large collection of cookbooks, and I tend to pare them regularly of the ones that don't get used. I recently purged another Korean cookbook which had beautiful photographs and completely inscrutable recipes. I am certain that Cook Korean! will be on my cookbook shelf forever. Robin Ha has demystified a cuisine that I love to eat but, despite being a good and experienced cook of multiple cuisines and styles, have been afraid to try and make at home. I feel, after reading it, not only that I can make the recipes in the book, but that I have a handle on Korean cooking in a general sense. I tested this by looking up some recipes online and yep, they make a lot more sense to me now. Something about the comic book format (and I'm a lover of comics as well as of cuisine) communicates the process of cooking this food to me in a way that a bare recipe never did. Robin's story of her awakening to a love of home cooking and of the traditions that inform Korean cuisine are charming, informative, and really connect with the reader. If you long for the taste of yukgaejang and kimchi jiigang at home, but find these dishes intimidating, BUY THIS BOOK. You will not be sorry. You will make delicious Korean food at home. It will make you happy in your belly.

What a fun read! I bought this as a present for my sister and we spent an enjoyable (and at time contentious :)) evening making the Japchae recipe. We ended up making a few changes here and there but it was delicious. I highly recommend this book.

My family usually hides in fear at the thought of my 'wok terrorism' but this book may be the holy grail I needed to woo them back to my asian kitchen efforts. The recipes are easy to follow and I have had little difficulty finding the majority of ingredients. The cartoons are fun yet descriptive, and none of the recipes are complex enough to require multi-step images. The korean tacos are amazing and the marinade was equal to anything I have had at a good korean BBQ establishment. This cook book is on 'repeat play' and I have yet to screw any of these dishes up, which is a major complement to the author. Kudos!
