The author takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotions and circumstances as he presents a picture of life as an air traffic controller not only prior to the PATCO strike of Aug.,1981, but also during, and after the strike. This book is a must-read for those who want to learn how the author managed to endure the multitude of personalities and rules and responsibilities that occasionally clashed, while handling air traffic at several facilities, including Toledo, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Pittsburgh towers. Mr. Brenlove competently leads the reader on a journey that includes moments of sheer terror, and moments of stark boredom. Future controllers will benefit from the experiences recounted by this excellent writer.

Confusing career path - other than that pretty good,

Was very pleased with book that I received. Was in great condition as described and camein a timely manner. Would order from them again.

Actually 3 1/2 stars...I was a little disappointed in this because I was expecting more technical explanation of ATC practices versus a kind of memoir on Brenlove's life in ATC. There were some definite interesting parts and this book isn't bad at all, just know what you'll be reading when you get it. That being said, I'd probably still buy this book because, as I mentioned before, there is some value here and makes for entertaining reading, just don't expect to gain any real insight into ATC processes.

I found this book at the local library and picked it up on a whim. It's very good, and I highly recommend it if you can find a copy. Like another reviewers said, it doesn't include details about how air traffic control is done, but instead paints a picture about what it's like to BE a controller, particularly in the 80s before and after PATCO's strike. There are some great near-miss stories and tales about eccentric controllers that are some of my favorite parts of the book.

It's like sitting around in his living room, as he recounts story after story about personalities and the ups and downs of being an air traffic controller. While giving some very interesting information about how air traffic is controlled, the book is more about people; the people that succeed and fail as air traffic controllers. Of particular interest are the sections devoted to the 1981 PATCO strike, and the acrimony leading up to it. Of less interest appeared to be the stories about what a great guy X was, or what a jerk Y was, but in retrospect, these stories serve as useful pieces in the overall picture of what it is like to work as a controller.I recommend this book to anyone interested in gaining an understanding of a very special job and the people that do it. If you are interested in learning the nitty gritty of how controllers do their work, or in riveting prose, then you had best look elsewhere.

This book has become by far the best book relating to aviation, especially for the 1980's. I really liked this book, finding it hard to put down throughout the rest of my high school oriented life. I am an avid aviator as well as my father, and my uncle is a terminal Air Traffic Controller in Chicago. All three of us eventually read this book and we all really liked the way it depicts not only ATC-ers but also what a business working day with aviation is like. I, myself, am looking into aviation as a career and I made my mother read this. Online classes are the best, as specially when you can get your books at a fraction of the price you pay at the college book store! This book was new in plastic and exactly like every other students book. It worked out great, and Amazon bought it back when the class was done. Doesn't get much better.

Worst textbook in all of my undergraduate studies. Authors assert that Jean Piaget is a value theorist but the truth is Jean Piaget is a cognitive theorist in child development. They apply his cognitive theory to value theory, which is more indicative of Lawrence Kohlberg and they fail to mention Gilligan. The book is riddled with misinformation. Authors assert that Doctors of Osteopathy are focused on the musculoskeletal system, this would be the chiropractor not the D.O. In fact the D.O. was a medical reform movement because treatments killed people more than the cause and so the founder A.T. Still establishes the four tenets of osteopathy, which does not focus on musculoskeletal system. This is a health care law textbook but they fail to mention how healthcare professionals are licensed, they only focus on physician licensing, nothing about PA, nurses or dieticians. This should be renamed a medical law book. I have had a medical ethics class and this textbook mentions ethics that I have never even heard of as a healthcare profession. The authors also assert that medical schools require a four year degree while many do not. The reader will have to unlearn their incorrect facts and misinformation to later learn it the correct way.

I used this book for an online course. It was cheap, which is the best part and it barely had any wear and tear. A few pages highlighted which I didn’t mind and it helped in my class. I don’t know much about the subject since this is my first time learning about law and ethics, but overall the quality of the book and the way it was shipped and arrived great! 4 stars because even though I’m a prime member this one took about a week to arrive ( this was noted when I ordered it).

This book was not in good condition at all which is what the tag on it says. All the homework assignments are already answered! (Which is not a good thing especially if highlighter is all over the book with wrong answers)

If you haven't tried seafood pie before, this is the one to make. Banana rum tart was heavenly.Keep 'em coming Eric.

I like this book, but the recipes are a little complicated sometimes. The measurements are not always easy, but the finished products were always good. The lemon tart recipe is very tart and delicious.

Yum. There are plenty of recipes in this book I want to try. Great photos too.

This is a wonderful cookbook for those of us that love pies and tarts and of course those who wish some different recipes than those in some of the usual cookbooks. Examples of recipes included are: Moroccan pastille tart, scallop and zucchini crumb pie, calzone, West Indies chocolate tart, treacle tart. Then there is pumpkin pie, blueberry pie too.There are lovely colour photos to go with most of the recipes and some step by step photos. Especially good are those that show the texture of the various types of dough and pastry. Tips such as cooking cheesecakes slowly and letting it cool inside the oven helps to avoid cracks on the tops are included.There are quick savory bakes using store bought pastry. Pastry basics are included - determined beginning cooks could make these dishes, yet more experienced ones will find something new and different.There are some really distinctive combinations in some of the recipes.We have made and enjoyed the spring garden green tart and the pork and cider pie.

I use coloring books to explore and experiment with color combos mostly. The quality of paper in this book is great for a variety of mediums. I've used colored pencils, markers, and even watercolor. I don't recommend the watercolor though, but still - I'm impressed with the quality.The images are fun and illustrated well.

I love JUDITH VIORST, having fallen in love with her writings when I first read her "How Did I Ever Get To Be 40 And Other Atrocities", a wonderful, fun and witty look about the transition in our lives from refusing to acknowledge growing older to facing reality. Growing older is an absolute must, unless one wishes to simply give up and face the Grand Reaper at an early age. Growing older is also wonderful: We learn that the important things of life really do matter; that love does last; that our families are our truest friends, our best companions; that the joy of laughter, of looking into the face of a loved one, of listening to the songs of birds, of watermelon and ice cream, of dipping our toes into a pool of cold water on a sunny summer's day, enrich out lives beyond measure. JUDITH VIORST knows all this, and so should we.

Purchased for my mom. There's much truth to generations not understanding those that precede them -- until you are standing in their shoes. I didn't understand all of the dynamics of being in a strong love relationship until I was in one, nor the pain of losing a close friend to death, nor of parenthood. The poems in this collection reach to an age I watch daily, but don't and can't understand until -- hopefully -- I may reach it. That wisdom eludes me -- all of us who aren't 'there' yet. But the stories held within made my mom smile, and wistful, and perhaps touch her.Difficult to expect a lot from a little book. I do wish it had been longer, but perhaps the knowledge and enjoyment is in the brevity, not unlike to joy one can feel not so much in the conversations but in the silence of being with another.

I have read all her books on various decades from twenties on up. I was so hoping she would make it to 80 so she would write another one (as I recently turned 80) and was thrilled to see she had made it also and had written another one for this stage....Rusti Van Rooy

Loved the material--Judith Viorst has entertained me for years via her magazine articles and now I had this skinny, delightful book with her wonderful approach to being a very senior citizen. I bought this book for a friend who is turning 80. That was a mistake. This book must be designed to make someone feel terrible about being 80. A couple chuckles but the rest is just terrible.

Judith has us rolling on the floor in laughter -- no take that back -- can't get up from the floor anymore.I have followed her from the beginning and have had the same experiences during the decades. Howwonderful that she has kept each of the decades alive for us. I love reading about my 20s and 30s again and wondering howI got this old along with Judith. Kids, if you want to know how your parents really were when they were younger -- getall these books, so you can see how they are aging also. I highly recommend buying the whole collection andhaving a day of remembrance and joy, and what to look forward to as you age. Judith, you have filled mylife with laughter, pain, joy and I love you for it.

Just moved to Omaha. This fun but factual read helped me feel connected to the place. History written in the way Mr. Bristow writes it makes it so much more fun and way more memorable. Every town has their own sorted "wicked" history why shouldn't Omaha! It sure is a great town now!

I enjoyed reading this book mainly because I lived in Omaha from my birth to age 28. It was interesting to know where some of the street names came from and also to know the background of the names of some buildings and museums and bridges. I had no idea that Omaha had such a storied history and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has been shared among many of my family members. I ordered this book from Amazon because after receiving mine as a loaner I wanted to be able to send it on to others.

this is a fantastic book about a begone era of the western groth of our nation. it is extreme well documentedand should be read by scholars of this time period.

I am now reading this book and enjoying it a lot. Learning lots about Omaha area. Till recently I lived in Bellevue mentioned in the book. Now living across Missouri river in Iowa and go to Council Bluffs frequently. It is in the book also
